Laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) is done through small cuts of 0.5 to 1.5 cm using a camera and fine instruments. Compared with open surgery it means less pain, smaller scars and a faster return to normal life.
Procedures
- Diagnostic laparoscopy to look for the cause of pain or infertility, including tube blockage and endometriosis
- Removal of fibroids (myomectomy) while keeping the womb
- Removal of ovarian cysts and endometriosis
- Surgery for ectopic pregnancy
- Hysteroscopy to examine and treat the inside of the womb, such as polyps or a septum
- Hysterectomy when it is needed
Surgery is offered only when it is indicated by your tests and is likely to help.
