Male fertility (andrology)

Semen analysis, treatment and surgical sperm retrieval by our in-house andrologist.

In about half of couples having difficulty conceiving, a male factor is part of the reason. Our in-house andrologist assesses and treats male fertility and reproductive health, so both partners are looked after in one place.

Services

  • Semen analysis covering count, movement and shape of sperm, with a detailed report
  • Hormone and genetic tests where needed
  • Medical treatment for hormonal problems, infections and erectile or ejaculation problems
  • Varicocele correction when enlarged veins in the scrotum are affecting sperm
  • Surgical sperm retrieval from the testis or epididymis for men with no sperm in the semen
  • Sperm freezing before cancer treatment or surgery

Common questions

When should a man see an andrologist?

If you have been trying for a year without success (six months if your partner is over 35), or sooner if you have had problems with erections, ejaculation, testicular injury, surgery or mumps after puberty.

What are common causes of male infertility?

Low sperm count, poor sperm movement, abnormally shaped sperm, hormonal imbalances, varicocele, blockages in the tubes that carry sperm, and lifestyle factors such as smoking, heat exposure and weight.

How should I prepare for a semen test?

Avoid ejaculation for two to five days before the test. The sample is collected in a private room at the hospital.
